Parallel Universe

A few years ago my BFF, Jovanna, went on an amazing adventure through Europe and was given a picture book with all their photos which was aptly titled "Parallel Universe." I think that perfectly describes this trip as well.

Jesse said the other day in Japan "they are just like us, this is just like America, they just speak a different language." A novel thought. We are ALL the same. We just speak different languages.

Some notable differences we've discovered....
  • Tokyo was immaculately clean! They don't have trash cans anywhere around the street. If you needed to throw something away - you're out of luck. Better go into a cafe. It is inappropriate to walk down the street and eat or drink (not even Starbucks!).
  • Hong Kong is not nearly as clean. It reminds me of NYC with the assortment of smells.
  • People in Tokyo were super friendly & nice. On the street people would stop to let you walk by, open the door for you, very respectful. It's a free for all in HK. I tell ya- just like NYC.
  • Surprisingly there were almost no electronic shops in Tokyo and there are a-bazillion in Hong Kong. Jesse is definitely enjoying this! :)
  • Oh and in Tokyo EVERYONE was dressed nicely. Women were wearing heals everywhere, men in suits. Respect is of utmost importance to them. HK is much more trendy. The outfits here remind me of when I was a little girl and I would mix and match everything I had in my closet to wear to school. Lots of colors, crazy shoes, ect. Also, a lot layering..I have enjoyed seeing all the clothes.
  • HK is filled with peddlers "copy watch, copy bag, rolex, i get you good bag." Every street corner. They can see Jesse from a mile away and will walk with us the whole block trying to sell us knock-offs. A new Channel timepiece, thank you very much. :)
  • Oh, this is crazy - THERE ARE NO BARS IN HONG KONG. Seriously, there are about 900 million dried pork markets but no place to get a drink. We walked all around yesterday and it was about 3:00 (it was 5 o'clock somewhere...) and we finally went into the mall and rested with a beer and a glass of wine at the "Union Bar & Grill"

Thats all I can think of for now. Off to Hanoi, Vietnam today. We are so excited to continue this amazing journey of southeast Asia.

Until next time.....

xoxo,

Katie
